This wheel thrown yunomi was made in my small pottery workshop here in Taiwan. My workshop overlooks the Yamingshan mountain which is a constant source of inspiration.
This pot was made from local Taiwanese clay and then a traditional Japanese glaze called shino was applied. This shino glaze reacted to the soda in the kiln and resulted in a beautiful iridescent finish.
While wet I added more clay in the form of lines going up the side of the pot. I believe any handmade pot needs to show the hand of the maker. It is this connection that makes a handmade item unique. Wabi sabi is a Japanese way of thinking that I like to impart into some of my pottery. I love the saying that says...
Nothing lasts
Nothing is forever
Nothing is perfect
My seal is stamped at the base of this yunomi.
