These long-stud earrings are handmade from two silver pieces that are crafted from a silver strip that we textured on surface with natural materials (wooden tree bark, straw, dry teak tree leaves, etc). The silver strip was thinned to roughly around 0.5 mm thickness by passing it into a rolling mill together with various materials that left the surface textured with beautiful, deeply embossed, natural patterns. The two pieces of silver strip were cut in different simple geometric forms, smoothed on edges and bent into the final shape. The sterling silver stem is soldered at the back of the short front piece and the long back piece is placed behind the earlobe before closing the earrings with push0-back butterfly.
Because of the manual process of texturing the metal we can never recreate 100% same surface, however we will make sure the final effect is about the same. Uniqueness of the product is what makes it special, as no two earrings can be exactly the same.
There are also two necklaces that we made with similar textured elements that match the earrings.
Our products are hand crafted in 95-98% Silver by Thai Karen hill-tribe artisans.
The Karen are a group of ethnic peoples who reside primarily in southern and southeastern Burma and in northern and north-eastern Thailand. Thai and Burmese hill tribes can be traced back to the 12th century when they are said to have originated from Tibet.
With a higher silver content than sterling silver, Karen silver has a weight, bright satin color and feel, all of its own. Every piece is handmade and individual.
The product comes in a traditional Thai packaging and includes tracking number for safer shipping.
By purchasing this product, you contribute directly to maintain and support local arts and crafts in Thailand.
