- Thumbelina is a classic fairytale about delicate thumb sized maiden with a big heart, written by Hans Christian Andersen. Thumbelina's collection was inspired by a watercolor painting by Eleanor Vere Boyle in 1872. The painting depicts a scene where "Tommelise borne on the Swallow's back to the South, where she sees the Fairy Flower Prince."
