This tea bowl was wheel thrown in my small pottery studio in Taiwan. I work from a rooftop studio that overlooks the Yamingshan mountains. They are a constant source of inspiration.
This tea bowl was made from local Taiwanese clay and then a shino glaze was applied. I fired this bowl in my small reduction kiln and wasn't pleased with the result, so I had the piece placed into a wood fired kiln. The firing took 4 days to complete. Again, the result wasn't what I wanted. I fired the bowl for the third time in my kiln again, after changing some settings. I was finally pleased with the end result. This bowl has been through a great deal and has triumphed in the end. I see parallels to us going through hard times, continuing to push and coming out with our heads held high.
When glazing this tea bowl I used my finger to wipe away some glaze. This mark is quite visible. As I hold the bowl the glaze reminds me of a sugary feel.
My seal is marked on the base, near the foot ring.
