Wood burning is a very ancient method. Most modern ceramists use electric or gas furnaces, where everything is strictly regulated: how much the furnace will heat up, how long the impact on ceramics at maximum temperatures will take place, and so on. Wood burning, in turn, gives unpredictability to the process - due to uneven heating and ash settling on the products - incredible patterns are obtained that make ceramic products "alive" and unique.
