This ring is made from a Polish 10 zloty coin from 1964. The coin is dedicated to the foundation of Krakow (Jagiellonian) University by Casimir III the Great in 1364. It is the oldest university in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. The university was famous for its legal sciences, mathematics and astronomy. One of his students was Nicolaus Copernicus, who entered the university in 1491. In 1942, during the occupation of Poland, the Nazis closed the university, but secret training was organized, in which about 800 students took part. Among them was Karol Wojtyla, who later became the Pope (John Paul II).
